Heather Fyffe and Robert Whalen are both social studies teachers at Heritage. Every year when the time comes to teach Greek History; they create a mock Olympics to bring the unit to life. When you're teaching about the past, it can be difficult to bring students' focus to the present. By creating interactive activities that immerse students in the time of study, students can actually see themselves in the lesson they are studying.
During this year's Olympics, students participated in the following events:
- Long jump
- 100 Meter Dash
Each classroom competed against one another in each event. The top three winners from each then squared off against the opposing classroom. The top three winners from each all won Olympic Gold, Silver, or Bronze.
It's opportunities like these that inspire optimal learning and student success. We thank Ms. Fyffe and Mr. Whalen for all of the incredible experiences they provide for our students on a daily basis. Heritage Middle School and Painesville City Schools is honored to have these exceptional educators in our district.
