Students from Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Cala's class volunteered at the Painesville Salvation Army on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
The students were there from 8AM until 1PM. In the morning, students brought in canned goods and non-perishable donations for the Salvation Army's kitchen and helped rearrange and organize the kitchen's storage room. The students also helped in the kitchen with duties such as opening canned foods with the supervision of an adult, wrapped silverware and set up trays for serving lunch.
In the afternoon, Heritage students served lunch and desert. Some students were helping serve in the kitchen, others delivering lunch trays to tables. Before heading back to school, students helped with clean up.
The funds for the donations to the Painesville Salvation Army came from the class' Community Store and an Educational Foundation grant. The Community Store offers school supplies at affordable prices during lunch periods at Heritage Middle School.
Thanks to Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Cala, Mrs. Perciful, Mrs. Atwell and Mrs. Dingley and Mrs. Haynes for arranging, coordinating and supervising this volunteering event.
